Prof. Fanelli at the European Philosophy of Science Association Conference

Prof. Fanelli presented yesterday at the European Philosophy of Science Association (EPSA) Conference 2025 in Groningen, Netherlands. His talk, “A metric of information compression to model and measure (scientific) knowledge?”, introduced the idea of K, outlined how it was derived, and shared the empirical results it has generated so far. The goal was to hear perspectives from philosophers of science on how K-theory—or Information Compression Theory—might count as a “theory” in the context of metascience.

The talk was part of a symposium on “Statistical Models, Measurement, and Scientific Knowledge”, organized by Wesley Bonifay, Associate Professor at the University of Missouri and a collaborator of our lab. The symposium focused on new ways of thinking about measurement and modeling, including our joint project that explores whether K can help predict the fitting propensity of models.

Stay tuned: Prof. Fanelli will share a deeper dive into this work next week, once his upcoming book review is out.
